Lady Marauder SoCCCer History - Killian
Killian March of CCC.
You may notice that prior to the beginning of both the boys and girls soccer games, the CCC teams assumes a tight knit formation and march in unison around their half of the field. The march is to a three beat cadence, that combines the simple cheer "C - C - C" , a three beat hand clapping, a three beat hand to foot clapping and various combinations of "C " "(hand clap)" and "(foot clap)". This is the "Killian March of CCC", a tradition since 1982.
Unknown to many, the name of the March, "The Killian", refers to Killian High School in Miami. In the late 70's / early 80's Killian High School was the established soccer power in Florida, coached by a former military man - Dennis Hackett. According to those who knew him, Coach Hackett knew a lot more about discipline and teamwork than soccer per se, but he didn't let that keep him from being an excellent coach. He was inspirational, a real motivator. CCC played against Killian, saw the routine, liked it and essentially borrowed it for themselves, paying respect to KHS by naming the routine after them.
For nearly 20 years now,
the Killian March has been reminding CCC players that success begins with
teamwork and that socccer
games begin with The Killian!
